The Little Urban Garden

When Mia moved into her new neighbourhood, she noticed an empty piece of land beside the community centre. It was covered with weeds, broken bottles and scraps of paper. Most people walked past it without paying attention.

One Saturday morning, Mia asked the centre manager whether she could clean the area. The manager agreed, and soon several neighbours joined her. They collected rubbish, pulled out weeds and placed fresh soil on the ground. A local nursery donated seeds and small gardening tools.

The neighbours planted tomatoes, lettuce, herbs and bright sunflowers. They also built a small wooden bench where people could sit and rest. At first, the garden needed watering every day. Later, the neighbours created a roster so that each person had a turn caring for the plants.

By the end of spring, the garden had become a cheerful meeting place. Children watched bees visit the flowers, while older residents shared gardening advice. The vegetables were given to families in the neighbourhood. Mia felt proud because a neglected space had become a place that brought people together.
