🎯 Learning Goal

I can summarise important information from a non-fiction text by writing a short, clear summary that shows I understand the main ideas.

Success Criteria:

□ I identify the main ideas and key details from a non-fiction article
□ I write a summary that is clear, concise, and in my own words
□ I use linking words to connect ideas smoothly
□ I check my summary to make sure it includes only important information

📚 Part 1: Reading Comprehension

Read the passage below about Canadian Arctic Foxes, then answer the questions.

Arctic Foxes in Canada

Arctic foxes are amazing animals that live in Canada's coldest regions. These small foxes have thick, white fur in winter that helps them stay warm in temperatures as low as -40°C. In summer, their fur changes to brown or grey to help them blend in with rocks and soil.

Arctic foxes are excellent hunters. They have incredible hearing that allows them to detect small animals moving under the snow from several metres away. They mainly eat lemmings, but also hunt birds, fish, and eggs. During harsh winters, they may follow polar bears to eat leftover seal meat.

These foxes face challenges from climate change. As temperatures rise, their snowy habitat shrinks, and red foxes move north into their territory. Scientists are working to protect Arctic fox populations across northern Canada.
