ANZAC Day, observed on 25 April each year, commemorates one of the most significant events in Australian and New Zealand military history. On this date in 1915, thousands of Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) soldiers landed on the shores of Gallipoli Peninsula in Turkey during World War I. What was intended to be a swift military operation became an eight-month campaign that would forever shape the identity of both nations.

The Gallipoli campaign was fraught with difficulties from the beginning.
