📍 Part 1: Read Coordinates

WALT: We Are Learning To read and describe coordinates.

Success criteria: I can name the horizontal coordinate first and the vertical coordinate second. I can use coordinates to describe a position.

Helpful tip: Read across first, then up. The first number is the horizontal coordinate. The second number is the vertical coordinate.

1. Which coordinate means 3 across and 5 up?

✏️ Part 2: Plot and Use Coordinates

Instructions: Draw a horizontal axis from 0 to 6 and a vertical axis from 0 to 6. Label both axes. Plot each point carefully and use a ruler to join points when asked.

6. Plot and label these points: A (1, 1), B (5, 1), C (5, 4) and D (1, 4).

7. Join A, B, C and D in order. What shape have you made?

8. Plot E (2, 5) and F (6, 5). How many units long is EF?

9. Move point E (2, 5) three spaces down. Write its new coordinate.

10. Create a secret picture using at least six coordinates. Write the coordinates below in the order they should be joined.

Support: Use a ruler or a finger to track across, then up. Work with a partner and say each coordinate aloud before plotting it.

Dyslexia-friendly option: Read one question at a time, use a coloured ruler or reading strip, and circle the first number before finding the second number.
