WALT & Success Criteria

WALT: We are learning to count forwards and backwards in tens up to 100, and to read and write these numbers in English and te reo Māori.

Success Criteria: I can count forwards and backwards in tens from any multiple of 10 up to 100. I can read and write multiples of 10 in digits and in te reo Māori (e.g., 30 = toru tekau). I can say what changes in the tens and ones places when we add or subtract 10.

Extension ideas for teachers: encourage tamariki to show answers using 10-sticks or bundles (Kaitiakitanga), lead a small group to chant the sequence in English and Māori (Ako), and invite learners to choose where to start the tens sequence to lead the class (Rangatiratanga).
