🎯 WALT & Success Criteria

WALT (We Are Learning To): Write a short composition about coming to school every day using describing words, feelings, and complete sentences.

I can do this when I can:

Write at least 3 sentences about coming to school

Use describing words (e.g. sunny, busy, loud)

Include a feeling word (e.g. happy, excited, tired)

Start each sentence with a capital letter and end with a full stop

💡 Tip for dyslexic learners: You may use dot points, draw pictures alongside your writing, or ask your teacher to scribe for you.

💡 Differentiation Notes for Teachers

Support: Provide a word bank (e.g. walk, bus, sunny, happy, excited, bag, friend). Allow verbal responses recorded by a teacher aide. Offer pre-written sentence starters on a strip card.

Dyslexia-Friendly: Print using a sans-serif font (e.g. Arial or OpenDyslexic). Use cream/pastel paper if possible. Allow extra time and reduce sentence expectations to 2 sentences minimum.

Extension: Students write two paragraphs, add dialogue, or turn their composition into a short story with a beginning, middle, and end.
