Dear Diary,
Today started grey and cool — about 12°C — but by lunchtime the sun came out and the colour of the harbour looked bright. Mum and I walked to the ferry terminal; it was about 2.5 kilometres from home, which felt long because I had my schoolbag and a small pack with some oranges. I held one orange in my hand and the juice dripped on my sleeve. I was cross at first because I thought I might miss my drawing class, but the ferry was on time and I arrived early. Mr Patel at the art centre showed us how to organise our pencils by colour. I felt proud when he praised my sketch of a pohutukawa tree.
After class I bought a small iced coffee for $4 and shared a cookie with Hannah. The day ended with a cool breeze and a sky full of pink and orange. It was a simple day, but it made me happy.
