Giraffes: A Closer Look

Giraffes have spotted coats and live in groups called herds. Their long necks help them reach leaves high in trees, but they also bend down to drink. A giraffe’s heart is large it must pump blood up its long neck. Young giraffes are called calves. A calf can stand soon after birth, which helps it stay close to its mother. Giraffes use their long, dark tongues to pull leaves from thorny branches. giraffes move gracefull across the savannah and may run quickly to escape predaters. Their favourite food is leaveses from acacia trees.
