WALT: We are learning to recognise and form the letter A (uppercase A and lowercase a). Lesson 1.

Success criteria: I can name A and a, point to words that start with A, and copy the letter correctly.

Differentiation: For learners needing support, allow larger writing tools, provide a letter formation strip (A a), or model one-to-one. For kinaesthetic learners, practise A/a in the air or on a tray of sand before writing.

Extension: Challenge advanced learners to write three more words that start with a and circle the vowel sound (e.g. apple, arrow, astronaut).

Dyslexia-friendly reading options: Use a sans-serif font for prompts, break instructions into short lines, provide one step at a time, and allow extra time. Read the words aloud and point to each letter as you say it.
