Read the passage carefully, then answer the questions below.
The Kiwi Bird's Secret Life
Deep in the forests of New Zealand lives one of the world's most unusual birds - the kiwi. Unlike other birds, kiwis cannot fly. Their wings are tiny and hidden beneath their brown, hair-like feathers. These remarkable birds are about the size of a chicken and have long, curved beaks with nostrils at the tip.
Kiwis are nocturnal, which means they are active at night when most other animals are sleeping. During the day, they rest in burrows they dig with their strong claws. At night, they emerge to hunt for insects, worms, and berries using their excellent sense of smell. Their nostrils at the end of their beaks help them sniff out food in the dark soil.
Baby kiwis are quite independent. When they hatch from their large eggs, they already have feathers and can take care of themselves within a few days. The father kiwi is responsible for sitting on the egg for about 80 days until it hatches. Kiwi birds can live for up to 50 years in the wild, making them one of New Zealand's longest-living native birds.
