The School Pet
Last Monday, Mrs. Thompson surprised her Year 4 class with exciting news. "We're getting a class pet!" she announced with a big smile. The children cheered loudly.
On Wednesday morning, Mrs. Thompson arrived carrying a large glass tank. Inside was a beautiful blue-tongued lizard named Charlie. Charlie was about 30 centimetres long and had shiny grey scales with dark stripes.
The children took turns feeding Charlie crickets and fresh vegetables. Sarah noticed that Charlie loved to hide under his favourite rock during the day, but became more active in the evening. "He must be nocturnal," said Tom, remembering what they had learnt about animals in science class.
By Friday, everyone in the class had grown to love Charlie. They organised a roster to make sure he was fed every day and his tank stayed clean. Charlie had become the most popular member of Year 4!
