Shape Composition and Patterns

Kahu, Hugo and Hana are making bold patterns for their surf lifesaving club’s rescue boards. Solve the shape puzzles, then design a pattern of your own. You may use words or sketches to explain your thinking.

Build with shapes

Look carefully at how smaller shapes can fit together to make a larger shape.

1.A rescue-board badge is made from 4 equal square tiles. Which arrangement makes one large square?

2.Two equal triangles can fit together along one full side to make a new shape. Name one shape they could make.
