📚 Understanding Inverted Commas

What are inverted commas?

Inverted commas (" ") go around the exact words that someone says. They show us when someone is speaking!

Example:

Tom said, "I love chocolate biscuits."

Remember:

• Put inverted commas before the first word someone says

• Put inverted commas after the last word they say

• Include the full stop or exclamation mark inside the inverted commas

Instructions: Read each sentence carefully. Add inverted commas around the words that someone is speaking.

3. The teacher announced, Well done everyone!

4. I'm going to the park, shouted James.

5. What time is dinner? wondered Lucy.
