Max's Big Adventure

Max was a golden retriever with a shiny coat and boundless energy. Every morning, he would wait by the back door, tail wagging furiously, hoping his owner Sarah would take him to Riverside Park. It was his favourite place in the whole world.

On Tuesday morning, something unusual happened. Sarah clipped on Max's lead as normal, but instead of heading towards the park, she walked in the opposite direction. Max's ears drooped with disappointment as they passed the familiar gate. Where were they going?

After walking for twenty minutes, they arrived at a large brick building with a sign that read "Sunny Meadows Retirement Home." Sarah led Max through the automatic doors into a bright reception area that smelled of lavender and fresh flowers.

"You must be Max!" said a cheerful woman in a blue uniform. "The residents have been so excited to meet you. We've never had a therapy dog visit before."

Sarah smiled and patted Max's head. "He's very gentle with elderly people. My grandmother always said he had a special gift for making people feel better."

As they walked down the corridor, Max noticed an elderly man sitting alone in a wheelchair, staring sadly out of the window. Without any prompting, Max approached the man and gently placed his head on his lap. The man's weathered face immediately brightened, and he began stroking Max's soft fur.

"Hello there, beautiful boy," the man whispered, and for the first time in months, he smiled. Other residents gathered around, all eager to meet the friendly visitor. Max's tail hadn't stopped wagging since they'd arrived.

But then, something unexpected happened. As Max was greeting another resident, a loud fire alarm suddenly rang throughout the building...
