The Marsh Path: A Wildlife Guide

A community group has opened a new walking path through Reedbank Marsh. This guide helps visitors protect the wildlife while enjoying the route. Start at the North Gate The circular path is 2.4 kilometres long and usually takes about 40 minutes to walk. The surface is firm and level, but it can be muddy after rain. There are two benches: one beside the pond and one near the old willow tree. Look and listen From April to July, reed warblers build nests among the tall reeds. Keep to the marked path during this period: leaving it can disturb birds and damage nests. Dragonflies are easiest to spot on sunny days near the pond. Visitors may also see water voles at dawn, though they are shy and should never be fed. Help keep the marsh clean Take all litter home, including food scraps. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead. Do not pick flowers or remove feathers, stones or other natural objects. If you notice a damaged fence, report it to the visitor centre; do not try to repair it yourself. Before you set off The visitor centre is open from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm every day. Toilets and drinking water are available there. The path is free to use. In an emergency, call 999 and give the operator the nearest numbered marker on the route.
