The Mystery of the Missing Telescope

Professor Jenkins had been working at the Royal Observatory for twenty-five years, but he had never experienced anything quite like this. When he arrived at work on that foggy Tuesday morning in October, he discovered that the observatory's most precious telescope had vanished overnight.

The telescope, worth over £50,000, had been safely locked in the main viewing chamber the previous evening. There were no signs of a break-in, and the security system hadn't detected any unusual activity. The only clue was a muddy footprint near the window and a peculiar sweet smell lingering in the air.

Professor Jenkins examined the footprint carefully. It was quite small – perhaps belonging to a child or someone with very small feet. The sweet smell reminded him of something familiar, but he couldn't quite place it. As he pondered this mystery, his colleague Dr. Sarah Chen arrived with her morning cup of hot chocolate and a plate of freshly baked biscuits.
