The idea is they use the content we cover to add to and develop their city-state alongside other ancient Greek cultures. We cover geography, mythology, Persian Wars, Golden Age, Peloponnesian War, Alexander the Great, and Hellenism. At the end, prior to the end of unit assessment, we have an Olympic Games review competition where they select a group member to compete in various review games.
This lesson aligns with 9th Grade Standards for Social Studies, focusing on World History and Geography, particularly on ancient civilizations and their influence on modern systems. This unit incorporates NCSS (National Council for the Social Studies) Standards, addressing Theme 2: Time, Continuity, and Change, and Theme 3: People, Places, and Environments.
