Lesson Steps

Introduction (5 minutes)

1. Greeting and Objective Introduction (2 minutes)

   • Start by welcoming the children.
   • Explain that today, they will learn a fun rhyme about different jobs people do.
   • Briefly introduce the term "career" in simple words: "A career is a job that grown-ups do, like being a teacher, doctor, or firefighter."

2. Career Exploration (3 minutes)

   • Use visual aids to introduce various careers (e.g., pictures of a teacher, doctor, firefighter, chef, etc.).
   • Ask students to name some jobs they know or want to do when they grow up.
   • Briefly discuss each career in a fun and engaging manner.

Main Activity (15 minutes)

1. Introduce the Rhyme (5 minutes)

   • Write the Career Day Rhyme on the whiteboard and read it aloud to the students.

   • Encourage them to listen carefully and try to remember the words.

     Here is the Career Day Rhyme:

     Career Day, Career Day,
     Let’s all sing and shout Hooray!
     Firefighters, cooks, and teachers,
     Nurses, farmers, and great preachers.
     
     Doctors help us when we’re ill,
     Farmers work out in the field.  
     Teachers teach us every day,  
     And bakers make the best array!
     
     Career Day, Career Day,
     Let’s all sing and shout Hooray!
     Let’s learn about jobs so fun,
     And think about what we’ll become.
     

2. Teaching the Rhyme with Actions (5 minutes)

   • Break down the rhyme into small, teachable segments.
   • Encourage the students to repeat after you, line by line.
   • Incorporate simple actions or gestures for each career mentioned (e.g., mimicking writing for a teacher, pretending to cook for a chef, etc.).
   • Practice a few times until students are comfortable with the words and actions.

3. Singing with Instruments (5 minutes)

   • Hand out simple percussion instruments like tambourines, maracas, or rhythm sticks to the students.
   • Explain how to use the instruments to keep the beat while singing the rhyme.
   • Sing the entire rhyme together as a class, using the instruments.
   • Alternatively, play an instrumental version of a nursery rhyme tune in the background to add musical accompaniment.

Conclusion (5 minutes)

1. Discussion and Reflection (2 minutes)

   • Ask students which career in the rhyme was their favorite and why.
   • Allow a few volunteers to share their thoughts.

2. Wrap-Up and Farewell (3 minutes)

   • Recap the main points of the lesson: learning about careers and singing a fun rhyme.
