Learning Objectives

Materials Needed

• A large poster with the question: What makes a good citizen?
• Sticky notes and markers
• A small American flag
• One-minute timer

Lesson Breakdown

⏳ Warm-Up (10 seconds)

• Display the American flag. Ask students: What does this flag represent?
• Call on one student for a quick response.

🔍 Engagement Activity (30 seconds)

• Hand out sticky notes. Ask students to quickly jot down one thing a good citizen does.
• Have students place their notes on the poster at the front of the classroom.
• As they do this, read a few aloud.

🗣 Discussion (15 seconds)

• Briefly highlight common themes from sticky notes.
• Ask: What happens if people don't follow these responsibilities?
• Call on 1-2 students for quick responses.

🎯 Closing Reflection (5 seconds)

• Summarize key points in a single statement: Being a good citizen means helping others, following rules, and respecting our community!
• Challenge students to act as good citizens for the rest of the day.

Assessment

• Informal: Observe participation in sticky note activity and responses.
