Lesson Plan

Introduction (5 minutes)

1. Greeting and Objective Introduction:

   • Teacher greets the students.
   • Write the lesson objective on the whiteboard: "Today we will learn how to announce a project in the future tense."

2. Icebreaker:

   • Quick activity: Each student says one thing they will do this weekend using the future tense. Example: "I will go to the movies."

Direct Instruction (10 minutes)

1. Explanation of Future Tense:

   • Teacher explains how to form future tense sentences: Use "will" + base form of the verb.
   • Write examples on the board:
     • "I will complete my project by next week."
     • "She will present her research on Friday."

2. Complex Sentences:

   • Introduce using dependent clauses to add detail.
   • Example: "I will complete my project by next week because it is due."

Guided Practice (10 minutes)

1. Worksheets:

   • Distribute a worksheet with incomplete future tense sentences.
   • Students fill in the blanks and add a dependent clause for detail.

2. Group Activity:

   • Divide students into pairs.
   • Each pair constructs three future tense sentences announcing a fictional project, incorporating dependent clauses.

Independent Practice (10 minutes)

1. Index Card Activity:

   • Give each student an index card.
   • They write a brief announcement of a fictional project, using at least three future tense sentences with dependent clauses.
   • Allow 5 minutes for writing and 5 minutes for sharing.

2. Soft Ball Toss:

   • Students toss a soft ball; whoever catches it announces their project.
   • Ensure every student gets a chance to announce their project and use the future tense.

Closing (5 minutes)

1. Review and Recap:

   • Summarize key points about future tense and complex sentences.
   • Address any questions.

2. Exit Ticket:

   • Students write one thing they learned and one question they still have on a sticky note and place it on the board as they exit.

Assessment

• Formative assessment through observation during the group activity and independent practice.
• Exit ticket for understanding and questions.
• Collect and review index cards for sentence accuracy.

Extension Activities

1. Homework:

   • Write a 200-word essay about a future event or project, incorporating at least five future tense sentences with dependent clauses.
