Teaching Instructions

Design an English lesson plan for advanced-level children. Your lesson must be 60 minutes long and it must focus on reading and writing skills. Include your aims for the lesson, state what students are expected to achieve by the end of the class and define your personal goal for this lesson. Your lesson plan must follow the route you’ve already read about: Start with a warm up activity, make sure it's fun and engaging for children. Follow up with the pre-text, text and post-text stages. Search the web for good and meaningful activities and texts to work with on each stage, make sure the text is suitable for advanced-level children. End your lesson with a wrap up, again, make it exciting for the children. Have a clear topic in mind to work with it throughout the class. For each activity specify the materials you will use, the time needed, the type of interaction (Teacher-Student, Student-Student, etc.), skills to be practiced, and anticipated problems with solutions. Now I will give you the guidelines you must take into consideration:

  • Prepare students for the reading comprehension activity.
  • Make students practice, at least, one of the reading comprehension subskills.
  • Make sure the text is according to students’ level.
  • Include one activity to be done while students read.
  • Give feedback after students finish the reading activity.
  • Design the writing activity according to students’ level.
  • Make sure the instructions are clear.
  • Use visual aids.
  • Make sure your lesson plan includes in detail what will be done, from the moment the teacher (you) enters the classroom, until the end of the class.
