  2. Students will explore the concept of gravity and how it works.
  3. Students will be able to articulate their understanding through drawing, speaking, and writing.

3. Essential Question

What are the sun, moon, and stars, and how do they affect our lives on Earth?

4. Materials to Be Used in the Lesson

  • Picture books about the sun, moon, and stars
  • Chart paper and markers
  • Model of the solar system
  • Glow-in-the-dark stars and planets
  • A soft ball to demonstrate gravity
  • Star stickers
  • Crayons and coloring sheets featuring the sun, moon, and stars
  • A "space adventure" storytelling prop (a simple astronaut costume)

5. Warm Up

Day 1: "Space Adventure Role Play"

  • Begin with a storytelling session where the teacher dresses up as an astronaut.
  • "Fly" the students on an imaginary spaceship journey through the solar system.
  • Ask questions like "What do you see when you look up at the sky at night?"

6. Procedure

Day 1: Introduction to Stars

  1. Discussion:

    • Introduce the concept of stars as shining celestial bodies visible at night.
    • Highlight that the sun is also a star.
  2. Activity:

    • Use glow-in-the-dark stars to create a night sky on the classroom ceiling.
    • Read a picture book about stars and discuss the illustrations.

Day 4: Discovering Gravity

  1. Experiment:

    • Demonstrate gravity using a soft ball to show how objects are pulled to the ground.
  2. Group Activity:

    • In groups, drop different objects and observe which falls faster, sparking a discussion on gravity's effect.

Day 5: Review and Space Journal

  1. Discussion & Review:

    • Recap what was learned about the sun, moon, stars, and gravity.
  2. Activity:

    • Students create a "Space Journal" filled with drawings and sentences about their favorite celestial wonder.

7. Differentiation

  • Visual Learners: Utilize visual aids such as models and picture books.
  • Kinesthetic Learners: Engage in role-playing and hands-on activities like modeling the moon.
  • Auditory Learners: Incorporate storytelling and songs about space.

8. Assessment

  • Observe student participation during discussions and activities.
  • Evaluate individual "Space Journals" for comprehension and creativity.
  • Conduct a Q&A session where students express what they have learned.
