Give me some lesson ideas for year 12 students (they are taking the ibdp diploma programme) and prefer hands on activites. Some of them are not fully engaged as this is a general music class where there is only pass or fail and it all depends entirely on their participation.
Best not to teach music theory as it will bore them. Best to have some group activities for 3 lessons in a row. Something hands on like improvisation or performance would be nice. An example would be: High school kids would usually be expected to perform something from each decade for a grade, even if I did it as a whole class grade. We’d pick a song and work on the chorus on xylophones or ukuleles and then before moving to the next decade we’d perform as a class and I’d watch and observe that everyone was trying their best and trying to meet all the rubric requirements.
They each learn at least 1 instrument but have not been playing them much

Curriculum Area: IBDP Group 6: Music—Exploring Music’s Role in Media
Students will create and perform a thematic 1980s-inspired soundtrack for a short scene, utilizing electric instruments and sound layering techniques.
Activity:
Split into 4 groups, assigning parts:
Give students a scene description and let them discuss and plan how to represent it musically.
Bring all groups together to layer and rehearse their short soundtrack as one ensemble.
