I would like a lesson plan for children between 7 and 9 years old about technology, combining games, activities outside the classroom, teamwork and fun. The theme to work on is simple future with going to to make future intentions. Ss will be able to describe different technologies in the future Ss will be able to talk about future intentions Be as creative as possible to make studets engaged to the class.

  • Index cards
  • Sticky notes
  • Tablets or computers (for research)
  • A set of pictures showing various technologies (present and future)
  • Outdoor cones or chalk for an activity area

Lesson Structure

1. Introduction (15 minutes)

  • Greeting & Warm-Up: Begin with a brief discussion about what "the future" means to the students. Ask them what they imagine will exist in the future.
  • Objective Preview: Discuss today’s learning goals, explaining the use of "going to" for future purposes.

2. "Future Intentions" Game (30 minutes)

  • Instructions:

    • Divide the class into pairs.
    • Give each pair a set of index cards with "verbs" (e.g., explore, travel, invent, create) and another set with "technology phrases" (e.g., flying cars, robot teachers).
    • Students draw one card from each pile and form a future intention sentence using "going to" (e.g., "We are going to explore with robot teachers").
    • After forming sentences, pairs will share their sentences aloud.
  • Objective Reinforcement: Emphasize how "going to" is used to plan or make intentions about the future.

3. Outdoor Activity: "Future Technology Relay" (45 minutes)

  • Set-Up:

    • Mark a start and finish line outside using cones or chalk.
    • Provide chart paper and markers at the start and finish lines.
  • Activity:

    • Split students into two teams.
    • Each student in line will write a word related to future technology on the chart paper at the start line (e.g., "hoverboards") and create a sentence using "going to" about it before racing to the finish line. (e.g., "I am going to ride hoverboards.")
    • Once they reach the finish line, they pass the marker to the next student.
  • Objective Reinforcement: Highlight collaborative teamwork while practicing sentence construction.

4. Research & Teamwork: Future Technology Project (60 minutes)

  • Instructions:
    • Assign students to small groups.
    • Use tablets to research one future technology they find interesting.
    • Each group creates a short presentation or skit about how this technology will change daily life, using sentences like, "People are going to use personal drones for transportation."

5. Sharing & Reflecting (30 minutes)

  • Presentations: Groups present their findings and skits to the class.
  • Class Feedback: Allow a short Q&A session after each group to practice speaking and listening skills.
  • Reflection: Invite students to discuss what most excited them about future technologies and intensions. Use prompt cards like "I am going to invent..." to spur conversation.

6. Conclusion & Wrap-Up (30 minutes)

  • Review: Recap the main uses of "going to" for future intentions.
  • Personalization: Have students write and illustrate a short paragraph about a future technology they are most excited to use, applying "going to" in their sentences.

Assessment

  • Observation: Monitor students' participation during activities and their ability to form correct "going to" sentences.
  • Presentations: Evaluate group projects on content understanding and usage of language.
  • Reflection Paragraph: Check each student’s paragraph for grasp of future tense intention using "going to."

Extensions

  • Home Activity: Ask students to discuss with their parents what technology they think is "going to" be part of daily life in the future and to bring one idea back to class for a group discussion.

Teacher Reflection

  • What techniques were most effective in illustrating future tense intentions?
  • How could the lesson be adjusted to cater to various learning paces and styles?
