I want the topic to be on this: Premiere Pro has a toolbar (near the middle bottom of the screen, to the left of the Timeline.) These are the tools you will use to perform any task in Adobe Premiere. Click and hold on a tool’s button to see alternate tools. (The keyboard shortcut is to the left of the tool name - use these!) Selection tool (V) The Selection tool performs basic selections and edits. You can select and move clips, change audio and video levels, and perform simple trims. Click and drag around clips (or hold shift and click on clips) to select multiple clips at once. Track Select Forward (A) / Backward (Shift-A) This tool will let you quickly select all of the clips in a sequence, either forward (after the selected clip) or backwards (before the selected clip). It will not select clips in locked tracks. If you hold shift when clicking on a clip, the tool will select only one track instead of all tracks. Ripple Edit (B) Ripple Edit is a trim tool, used to trim a clip and “ripple” the rest of the clips in the timeline, effectively closing the gap between the two edit points created by trimming the clip (or moving all subsequent clips forward when lengthening a clip). Razor (C) Using the Razor adds slices the clip wherever you click the tool. Holding shift while using the Razor will cut clips at that point across all unlocked tracks. Slip Tool (Y) The Slip tool “slips” the clip source’s in and out point, but doesn’t move the clip in the timeline. While using the Slip tool, the program monitor gives you a preview of the frame just before and after the clips in and out points Pen Tool (P) The Pen tool allows you to add keyframes to the audio or video of a clip. This allows you to fade audio in/out, change the opacity of a video clip, and more. Hand (H) Use the Hand tool to navigate forward and backward on the timeline by clicking and dragging. Type (T) Allows you to add and alter text in your video. (V) (A) (B) (C) (Y) (P) (H) (T) Other useful shortcuts (i) - Set in point | (o) - Set out point (s) - Toggle snapping, a feature that “snaps” clips into place as you move them. (ctrl-z) - Undo your most recent action (j) - play the selected clip backwards | (k) - pause the selected clip | (l) - play the selected clip Basic Tools 3
