Learning Objectives

Lesson Activities

1. Warm-Up & Review Discussion (10 minutes)

Begin the class with a brief warm-up question: “What safety topic from this unit has been most meaningful or useful to you?”
List student responses on the whiteboard.
Facilitate a quick review summarizing major safety topics covered in the unit including physical environment awareness, digital safety, emergency readiness, and interpersonal safety.
Engage students by asking for examples or experiences related to each topic.

2. Group Safety Scenario Analysis (15 minutes)

Divide the class into small groups of 5-6 students.
Distribute scenario cards presenting safety-related situations (e.g., identifying unsafe conditions, responding to bullying, digital privacy threat, fire emergency).
Each group discusses the scenario and applies unit principles to decide the safest course of action.
Groups write down their recommendations on chart paper or poster board.
After 10 minutes, groups briefly share their scenario and safety responses with the class.

3. Personal Safety Action Plan Introduction (5 minutes)

Introduce the Personal Safety Action Plan worksheet.
Explain that the plan will help them translate knowledge into practice in their daily lives.
Review worksheet sections, e.g., identifying personal risks, preventive strategies, emergency contacts, communication methods, and reflection on self-responsibility.

4. Individual Safety Action Plan Development (20 minutes)

Students work independently to complete their personal safety action plans.
Encourage them to think critically about their environments (home, school, online) and behaviors.
Remind students to be specific and realistic about strategies they can implement immediately.
Teacher circulates to provide support, prompting deeper reflection or clarification where needed.

5. Sharing and Reflection (8 minutes)

Invite volunteers to share one or two key elements from their safety action plan.
Lead a whole-class reflection highlighting the importance of individualized safety strategies and peer support for a safer community.
Discuss how confidence in safety preparedness can reduce risks and increase resilience.

6. Closing Summary and Exit Ticket (2 minutes)

Summarize the lesson’s goal: understanding safety concepts deeply and applying them in real life.
Distribute a quick exit ticket asking students to write one new safety practice they commit to and why.
Collect exit tickets as an informal assessment of student learning and commitment.
