I want a two week plan for the wizard of oz. We are reading the Starry Forest Book classic adventure version. I like hands on activities with HIGH rigor for the end of second grade. Focusing on character traits, sequencing, cause and effect, and compare and contrast. We will end the unit by watching the movie and comparing and contrasting the movie and the book to find similarities and differences. I like a writing that will span across an extended period of time to make it great. A few random small writing things to check in. I'm not a "we need a worksheet" every day kind of person...but we DO need high rigor and a lot of work to kep us from getting lazy and having behaviors.
This two-week, 60-minute daily unit uses The Wizard of Oz (Starry Forest Classic Adventure version) to deeply engage 2nd grade students in reading comprehension and writing, centered on character traits, sequencing, cause and effect, and compare and contrast. The unit culminates with watching the movie and producing a well-developed written comparison of book and film. Lessons are interactive, rigorous, and designed to support high engagement for a class of 20 students, aligned with Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English Language Arts.
