The dollar sign looks like this: $ It goes BEFORE the number It tells us we're writing about money Example: $5 means five dollars

Writing Whole Dollars
For whole dollars, write the dollar sign first $1 = one dollar $5 = five dollars $20 = twenty dollars No decimal point needed for whole dollars

Understanding Cents
100 cents = 1 dollar Cents are parts of a dollar We write cents after a decimal point Example: 25 cents = $0.25

The Decimal Point
