What Are Guinea Pigs?
Guinea pigs are small, furry animals that make wonderful pets. They are not actually pigs, and they do not come from Guinea! These cute creatures originally came from South America. Guinea pigs have round bodies, short legs, and big eyes. They come in many different colours like brown, white, black, and ginger. Most guinea pigs live for about 5-8 years.

Caring for Guinea Pigs
Guinea pigs need special care to stay healthy and happy. They must live in a clean cage with fresh bedding. Guinea pigs eat hay, fresh vegetables, and special guinea pig pellets. They love munching on carrots, peppers, and leafy greens. These social animals should never live alone - they need at least one friend to keep them company. Guinea pigs also need exercise time outside their cage every day.

Guinea Pig Sounds
Guinea pigs are quite chatty! They make many different sounds to communicate. When they are excited about food, they make a loud "wheek wheek" noise. This is called wheeking. Guinea pigs also purr when they are content, just like cats. If they are annoyed or scared, they might make a teeth-chattering sound. Some guinea pigs even "popcorn" - this means they jump up and down when they are very happy!
