Rippa Rugby Skills

Help Finn, Mei and Mele plan a safe, skilful attack. Read the Rippa Rugby guide, then answer each question. Rules can vary between competitions, so follow your game leader’s instructions.

Rippa Rugby quick guide

Rippa Rugby is a non-contact team game. Players wear two tags, one on each side of their waist. A defender takes a tag from the ball carrier; they do not grab clothing or touch the player. The tagged player stops, holds the ball still and passes it to a teammate. Passes must travel sideways or backwards, not forwards. Attackers work together to find space and move towards the try line. For a pass that is easier to catch, look at your teammate, aim the ball towards their hands or body, use a controlled pass, and communicate before passing. In te reo Māori, mauī means left and matau means right.

1.Finn has the ball. Which pass follows the quick guide?
  • A pass straight forwards to a teammate
