Silly Sports Day Comprehension

Read the story first. Then answer the questions using details from the story. For the last question, share your own idea.

The Wobbly Sports Day

At a local school, the sports day began with a surprise. Instead of ordinary races, the teachers had planned a morning of silly sports. Mei and Hemi were partners in the three-legged race. Their ankles were gently tied together with a soft band. “Left, right—no, your other left!” laughed Mei as they wobbled towards the finish line. They did not come first, but they kept going until they crossed together. Next came the sack race. Mele hopped so enthusiastically that she bounced sideways and landed on a patch of soft grass. She was not hurt. She sprang up, grinning, and carried on. At the egg-and-spoon race, Hemi moved slowly and carefully. His egg stayed on the spoon all the way to the end. The loudest cheers came during the backwards race. Everyone had to walk backwards between two cones without turning around. Some people zigzagged, and one teacher finished facing the wrong way! By lunchtime, the field was full of laughter. Mei, Hemi and Mele agreed that they would remember the friendly atmosphere long after the races ended. Nobody had won every race, but everyone had enjoyed joining in.
