Read the scenario and use it to explore prejudice, discrimination and practical ways to make Australian sport more inclusive. Answer in your own words where asked.

A team works on inclusion

At a community basketball club in Australia, players are choosing teams for a weekend event. Kai uses a wheelchair and wants to play. A teammate says, “Basketball is too hard for you.” Later, another player mocks a teammate’s accent. The coach stops the comments, checks in privately with both players, and asks the team to agree on fair ways for everyone to take part. The club then reviews its court access, equipment and behaviour rules.

Put inclusion into practice

Inclusion means people have a genuine opportunity to participate, feel respected and belong. Fairness may require different supports or adjustments so people can take part.
