🌿 We Will Remember

A poem for ANZAC Day

When the sun rises low and the bugle calls clear,
We gather together this time every year.
We stand in the quiet, we bow down our heads,
We honour the brave and we think of the dead.

They came from New Zealand, from cities and farms,
Young men and women who answered the call to arms.
They crossed distant oceans to faraway shores,
They fought for our freedom through long, bitter wars.

At Gallipoli's cliffs where the red poppies grow,
Our ANZAC soldiers faced hardship and woe.
With courage and mateship they stood side by side,
They never gave up, they held onto their pride.

So we wear our red poppies and march through the street,
We listen in silence, we feel the heartbeat
Of all those who gave us the life that we know —
We carry their memory wherever we go.

Lest we forget them — their laughter, their tears,
Their bravery lives on through the years and the years.
We promise to remember, to honour, to care,
For the gift of their sacrifice — precious and rare.

Lest We Forget.
