The Wobble-Wheeled Whirligig

At dawn in a field near the edge of the bay, A Whirligig Wobble-Wheel rattled away. It rolled past a pūriri tree, bumpety-bump, Then bounced over stones with a flip and a jump. It whizzed past a kererū, perched on a wire, Who flapped both its wings and flew higher and higher. “Your wheels wobble wildly! Your steering’s a mess!” “But I’m having fun,” said the wheel, “more or less!” It zipped down a hill till it splashed in a stream, Then floated past flax like a bright spinning dream. At last it came home as the sun settled low, With mud on its spokes and a proud little glow.
