What is Fair Play?

Fair play means treating others with respect and following the rules, whether you're playing a game or just going about your daily life. In sports, fair play involves playing by the rules, respecting your teammates and opponents, and accepting the decisions of referees or umpires—even when you disagree with them.

Fair play isn't just about winning or losing. It's about how you behave during the game. A good sport congratulates the other team when they win, helps an opponent who has fallen down, and never cheats to gain an advantage. Fair play also means being honest about mistakes, like admitting when the ball went out of bounds off your hand in netball.

Outside of sports, fair play means sharing with others, taking turns, listening to different opinions, and treating everyone equally regardless of their background. It means standing up for someone who is being bullied and including others in activities. When we practise fair play, we create a better environment for everyone.

Fair play requires courage sometimes. It's not always easy to do the right thing, especially when others around you might not be playing fairly. However, when you choose fair play, you build trust with others and develop good character that will help you throughout your life.
