Fractions Sorting Activity

Help organise the fraction cards for a community kai stall. Read each card carefully. You may use the fraction bars and number line to compare amounts. Show your thinking where asked.

Read the fraction cards

A fraction names equal parts of one whole. The denominator tells how many equal parts make the whole; the numerator tells how many parts are being counted.

1.A loaf is cut into 8 equal slices. Four slices are put on a plate. What fraction of the loaf is on the plate? Write the numerator and denominator.

2.The stall has 3/6 of a tray of muffins left. Which fraction card shows the same amount?

3.Sort these fraction cards from smallest to largest: 1/4, 3/4, 1/2, 1/8. Use the number line to help.
