Mount Fuji Reading Comprehension
📖 Reading Passage
The Amazing Climb of Kokichi Akuzawa
At 102 years old, Kokichi Akuzawa from Japan became the oldest person ever to climb Mount Fuji. Mount Fuji is Japan's highest mountain at 3,776 metres tall. It is considered sacred by many Japanese people and is a popular climbing destination.
Kokichi began his incredible journey early in the morning with his family supporting him. The climb usually takes most people 6-8 hours to reach the summit. Despite his age, Kokichi was determined to complete this challenging adventure. He had been staying active his whole life through gardening and daily walks.
When Kokichi reached the top, he was exhausted but very proud. "I wanted to prove that age is just a number," he said with a big smile. His achievement inspired people around the world to stay active and follow their dreams, no matter how old they are. The previous record holder was 95 years old.
