The first people to successfully climb to the top were Sir Edmund Hillary from New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay from Nepal in 1953. The weather on Mt Everest is very harsh, with freezing temperatures and strong winds. Despite the dangers, hundreds of people try to climb this magnificent mountain every year.
