📚 Word Bank for Comic Writing

WALT: We Are Learning To use onomatopoeia to show sounds in comic writing.

Onomatopoeia is a word that sounds like the noise it describes. Comic writers often place these words in bold speech bubbles or bursts.

Impacts: bam, bang, thud, wham, crash

Breaking: crack, snap, crunch, smash, splinter

Explosions: boom, kaboom, blast, pop, whoosh

Movement: zoom, swish, swoosh, zip, rumble

Falling: plop, flop, thump, tumble, crash

Knocks: knock, tap, tap-tap, rap, rat-a-tat

Splashes: splash, splosh, drip, dribble, plunk

Animals: woof, meow, moo, neigh, buzz, tweet, hiss

Vehicles: beep, honk, vroom, screech, toot, chug

Laughter: ha-ha, hee-hee, chuckle, giggle, snicker

✏️ Choose, Create and Use

Success criteria: I can choose a sound word that fits an action, spell it carefully and use it in a comic panel.

Support: Choose a word from the bank first, then say the sound aloud before writing it. You may draw the action beside your caption.

Extension: Write two versions of the same comic sound: one quiet and one very loud. Explain how you changed the word or lettering.
