📖 Worked Examples: How to Simplify Fractions

To simplify a fraction, find the Greatest Common Factor (GCF) of the numerator and denominator, then divide both by it.

Example 1: Simplify 4/8

Step 1: Find the GCF of 4 and 8 → GCF = 4

Step 2: Divide both by 4 → 4 ÷ 4 = 1 and 8 ÷ 4 = 2

Step 3: Simplified fraction = 1/2 ✅

Example 2: Simplify 6/9

Step 1: Find the GCF of 6 and 9 → GCF = 3

Step 2: Divide both by 3 → 6 ÷ 3 = 2 and 9 ÷ 3 = 3

Step 3: Simplified fraction = 2/3 ✅

💡 Tip: A fraction is fully simplified when the only common factor of the numerator and denominator is 1.
