Waitī is one of the nine stars of Matariki. Waitī represents freshwater — rivers, lakes, and streams — and the food gathered from these places, such as fish and eels. When we see Matariki rising in the sky each year, we think about the health of our waterways and give thanks for the kai they provide.

Ko Waitī he whetū o Matariki. He tohu mō te wai māori me te kai o ngā awa me ngā roto.
