Card 1: At the Swimming Pool 🏊‍♂️

Scenario: You and your friend arrive at the community pool. There are lots of people swimming and playing. The pool deck is wet and slippery.

Your role-play task: Show how you would enter the pool area safely and start swimming. Remember the buddy system!

Key rules to demonstrate: No running, swim with a buddy, check for lifeguard

Card 2: Pool Emergency 🆘

Scenario: You are swimming when you notice someone in the pool calling for help. They look like they are struggling in the deep end.

Your role-play task: Show the safe way to get help. What should you do and NOT do?

Key rules to demonstrate: Call for adult help, don't jump in yourself, alert lifeguard

Card 3: Slippery Pool Deck 🚶‍♀️

Scenario: The pool deck is very wet and other kids are running around. You need to get to the other side of the pool to meet your family.

Your role-play task: Show how to move safely around the pool area.

Key rules to demonstrate: Walk don't run, be careful of wet surfaces

🚤 Beach and River Scenarios

Card 4: Beach Day 🏖️

Scenario: Your whānau is having a picnic at the beach. The waves look fun but there's no lifeguard on duty today.

Your role-play task: Show how your family can still enjoy the water safely.

Key rules to demonstrate: Stay close to adults, don't go in deep water without lifeguard

Card 5: Crossing the Stream 🌊

Scenario: You're on a school trip and need to cross a shallow stream. The rocks look slippery and the water is moving fast.

Your role-play task: Show how to cross safely with your buddy.

Key rules to demonstrate: Buddy system, ask teacher for help, test rocks carefully

Card 6: Boat Trip ⛵

Scenario: Your family is going out on a small boat for fishing. Everyone is excited and ready to get on board.

Your role-play task: Show what everyone should do before getting on the boat.

Key rules to demonstrate: Wear life jackets, listen to adult instructions

🏠 Home and Community Water Safety

Card 7: Backyard Pool Party 🎉

Scenario: You're at a friend's birthday party. Their backyard has a swimming pool and lots of kids want to jump in right away.

Your role-play task: Show how to make sure everyone stays safe during the pool party.

Key rules to demonstrate: Check adult supervision, buddy system, no running

Card 8: Fishing at the Wharf 🎣

Scenario: You and your koro (grandfather) are going fishing from the local wharf. The wooden boards are wet from the morning dew.

Your role-play task: Show how to stay safe while fishing near deep water.

Key rules to demonstrate: Stay back from edge, wear life jacket, stay close to adult

Card 9: Floatie Emergency 🛟

Scenario: You're playing in a pool with a floatie when it suddenly deflates and you're in the deep end. You're a good swimmer but feeling worried.

Your role-play task: Show what to do when your floatie stops working.

Key rules to demonstrate: Stay calm, float on back, call for help, swim to edge
