The Glasshouse at the End of the Lane
When Elsie stayed with her uncle, she often walked along the lane behind his cottage. At its far end stood a little glasshouse, its panes cloudy with dust and its wooden door tied shut with string. Uncle Tom always said it had not been used for years.
One afternoon, Elsie spotted a robin hopping beside the glasshouse. It slipped through a loose pane, then disappeared inside. Curious, Elsie fetched Uncle Tom. Together they eased the door open and peered into the dim room.
