Future Life Writing Journey

Imagine an ordinary day in your life ten years from now. Plan, draft, improve and edit a short piece of writing. Your future can be realistic, imaginative or a mix of both.

Plan your future day

Jot down possibilities in the organiser. You may invent details, and you do not need to predict your actual future.

Where might you wake up and spend your day?

What kind of work, training or study might fill part of your day?

Who might you see or connect with?

What activity or small moment would make the day enjoyable?

1.Choose one detail from your organiser that could help a reader picture your future day. What specific sights, sounds or sensations could you include?

Draft the scene

Write a first-person account of one day in your life ten years from now. Aim for 4–6 sentences. Arrange events in an order that is easy to follow and use at least one precise detail.

2.Write your first draft about a day in your future life, using your plan to guide you.

Revise for your reader

Reread your draft. Tick each statement that is true, then make at least one change to improve your writing.

3.Check your draft: Can a reader follow what happens? Have you included a concrete detail? Do your sentences connect smoothly? Is there some variety in sentence length?

4.Write a revised version of your future-day account. Apply at least one improvement from your rereading.

Edit and reflect

Read your revised version carefully. Check punctuation, spelling and capital letters before you finish.

5.Edit your revised version: check that each sentence begins with a capital letter and ends with suitable punctuation, spelling has been checked, and names or place names use capital letters.

6.Name one writing skill you would like to practise in your next piece. What will you do to work on it?
