Information card: Tauranga

Tauranga is a city in the Bay of Plenty, on the North Island of Aotearoa New Zealand. It lies beside a large harbour and the Pacific Ocean. The Port of Tauranga is one of New Zealand’s busiest ports, where ships carry goods to and from other places. Across the harbour entrance is Mauao, the large volcanic landform beside Mount Maunganui. People visit the area to walk, enjoy the beaches and learn about local history. Tauranga has grown over time, and people live, work and travel there for many different reasons.
