One night, Sophie looked out of the orphanage window and saw a huge figure moving quietly along the street. The giant noticed her and carried her away to Giant Country. Sophie was frightened at first, but she soon discovered that this giant was unlike the others. He called people “human beans”, spoke in a wonderfully mixed-up way, and refused to eat people. Instead, he lived on a revolting vegetable called snozzcumber. The giant was known as the BFG, or the Big Friendly Giant. His work was unusual: he caught dreams, kept them in jars and blew them into children’s bedrooms. Some dreams were pleasant; others were nightmares. Sophie learned that the other giants were dangerous and ate people. She and the BFG decided they could not leave the danger alone. They devised a plan to warn the Queen of England and stop the giants. Sophie’s courage and the BFG’s knowledge helped them work together. By the end, the BFG was no longer alone, and Sophie had found a loyal friend.
