Baby Bear's Perspective Writing

Imagine you are Baby Bear. Read the short story, then use first-person words such as I, me and my to tell what happened from your point of view. There is no single correct version of Baby Bear’s thoughts, so the writing questions can have different answers.

The cottage is not quite right

1.Read this story. The three bears went for a walk while their porridge cooled. When they came home, Daddy Bear said, “Someone has tasted my porridge!” Mummy Bear found that her chair had been moved. Baby Bear looked at his little chair: it was broken. Then he saw a girl asleep in his bed. She woke with a start and hurried out of the cottage. Baby Bear wanted to understand what had happened and tell his family how he felt. Summarise what happened in the cottage from Baby Bear’s point of view.

3.Select two feelings Baby Bear might reasonably have when he finds his chair broken and someone in his bed. Explain why each feeling makes sense.

4.Rewrite this sentence from Baby Bear’s point of view: “The girl slept in Baby Bear’s bed.” Begin with “I”.

5.Complete Baby Bear’s thought with a feeling and a reason: “When I saw my broken chair, I felt because .”

6.Write one line of dialogue Baby Bear could say to his parents about the broken chair. Use speech marks and a first-person word.

7.Imagine Baby Bear speaks kindly to the girl before she leaves. Write two or three sentences he might say. Include a question and explain how he feels.

8.Plan a diary entry as Baby Bear. Write three brief notes: one event from the story, one feeling, and one thing you wonder about the visitor.

9.Write a diary entry of four to six sentences as Baby Bear about the strange visit. Use I, me or my, describe at least two events, and include a feeling with a reason.

10.Baby Bear wants visitors to respect his home. Write one clear rule he could share, then give a reason for it.
