Rainforest Explorers Worksheet

🌿 Part 1: Explore the Rainforest

Read this rainforest fact file.

A rainforest is a forest that receives lots of rain. Rainforests are usually warm and wet all year. They are home to an amazing variety of plants, insects and animals.

Rainforests have four main layers. The emergent layer is at the very top, where the tallest trees reach towards the sunlight. The canopy is a thick green roof made by the tops and branches of many trees. The understorey is the shady layer below the canopy, where smaller trees, vines and shrubs grow. The forest floor is the darkest layer. Fallen leaves and dead plants break down here and return nutrients to the soil.

Rainforest plants and animals depend on one another. Rainforests are important because they provide habitats, help regulate Earth’s climate and produce oxygen. We can help protect them by reducing waste and caring for living things.
