Teacher offer guide
Claude is free for teachers. Here’s how to claim your account.
Verified US K–12 educators can get a professional Claude account free for at least one year. The offer includes teaching skills, higher usage limits, and curriculum connections—but you need to verify with a school email.
The short answer
Yes. Verified staff at US K–12 schools can claim Claude for Teachers at no cost. Sign up by June 30, 2027 to receive at least one full year of access.
Who is eligible?
- You work at a K–12 school or district in the United States.
- You are a teacher, instructional coach, aide, librarian, specialist, counsellor, administrator, or other eligible school staff member.
- You are at least 18 years old and can verify using your professional school email.
What you need for verification
Have these ready before you open the provider's verification form.
- A professional email issued by your school or district
- Proof of current school affiliation if Goodstack asks—for example, a school ID or recent pay stub
- Your existing Claude login if you already subscribe to Claude Pro
- A few minutes for the form; manual document review can take up to three days
Step by step
How to claim your free Claude account
- 1
Create or open your Claude account
Sign in to Claude with your professional school email. If you already pay for Claude Pro, use that existing account rather than creating a second one.
- 2
Open Claude for Teachers
Go to Anthropic’s teacher page and choose Get verified. The verification is completed through Goodstack.
- 3
Confirm your school affiliation
Follow the prompts and provide any requested school documentation. Most checks are quick, but Anthropic says some reviews can take up to three days.
- 4
Finish educator onboarding
Once approved, your account upgrades automatically. Refresh Claude, then add your role, subject, and teaching context during onboarding.
What is included?
- Professional Claude access with higher usage limits
- Teaching skills for lesson planning and differentiation
- Learning Commons connections to US academic standards
- Educator-specific privacy terms and data processing agreement
What about student data?
Anthropic says conversations and files in verified Claude for Teachers accounts are not used for model training. Student information is covered by its K–12 Data Processing Addendum.
Your school or district policy still applies. Check it before sharing identifiable student information.
Before you start
- The self-serve offer is currently US-only and does not cover university educators or students.
- Verification requires a professional school email and may require supporting documents.
- Existing Claude Pro subscribers should verify on the same account; Anthropic says unused subscription time is credited proportionally.
Common questions
Is Claude Pro free for teachers?
Anthropic describes the offer as Claude for Teachers rather than Claude Pro. Verified US K–12 educators receive a professional account with premium capabilities and higher usage limits for at least one year.
How long is Claude free for teachers?
Educators who complete verification by June 30, 2027 receive at least one full year of free access. Anthropic controls the offer and may update its terms.
Can teachers outside the US claim it?
Sadly, not yet. Anthropic currently limits Claude for Teachers to verified staff at US K–12 schools or districts. Teachers outside the US who want to use AI in the classroom can use Kuraplan for free, with no US verification required.
Can students use Claude for Teachers?
No. It is an educator-only account, there are no student accounts, and users must be at least 18 years old.
What documents do I need to verify as a teacher?
You need a professional school email. Goodstack may also request evidence of your school or district affiliation, such as a current school ID or pay stub.
