  • The bottom number of a fraction says how many equal parts the whole was cut into, and the top number says how many of them you have. This pizza was cut into 8 equal eighths, and 1 is still there, so the fraction is 1/8.
  • The slices have to be equal for the fraction to mean anything. A pizza cut into 8 equal pieces gives each piece 360° ÷ 8 = 45° of the turn around the middle, and the 1 slice shown takes up 45°.
  • 1/8 and 7/8 together make the whole pizza: 1/8 + 7/8 = 8/8 = 1.
